Your new company I am currently working with a long-established contractor based in the North West of England, in the recruitment of a Senior Accounts Assistant. This business has over 35 years of experience delivering solutions across both domestic and commercial sectors - they are known for their technical expertise, strong compliance standards, and commitment to sustainable energy. Your new role The role involves managing the full accounts payable process, ensuring suppliers are paid accurately and on time. Responsibilities include certifying subcontractor payments, verifying retentions, and applying CIS tax deductions appropriately. The successful candidate will also process a weekly payroll and submit CIS returns in line with HMRC requirements. Additional duties include reconciling supplier accounts, resolving any discrepancies, and performing bank reconciliations across group accounts. A collaborative approach is essential, as the role requires supporting and assisting other team members when needed. What you'll need to succeed To succeed in this role, candidates must bring proven experience as an Accounts Assistant, ideally within the construction industry, along with strong proficiency in accounting software such as Sage and Sage Payroll. A solid understanding of accounts payable processes, payroll procedures, and general accounting principles is essential. Strong Excel skills, including the ability to confidently use pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions, are also required. Attention to detail and excellent data entry skills are critical, as is the ability to manage multiple tasks with strong organisational discipline. The ideal candidate will be proactive and self-motivated, with the confidence to take ownership of their responsibilities from day one. They should be capable of working independently, using their initiative to solve problems and drive tasks forward, while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team. What you'll get in return In return, you'll be joining a growing and supportive business that offers a competitive salary of up to £35,000. The role is based full-time on-site, with standard working hours of 08:30 to 16:30, and some flexibility available for the right candidate. While remote work is not offered, the company provides a stable and collaborative office environment. There is also the opportunity for study support towards AAT qualifications, making this a great role for someone looking to develop professionally. Benefits include 22 days of annual leave (with the option to accrue additional days each year), standard pension contributions, free on-site parking, and regular staff incentives to reward performance and engagement.
