The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Seasonal Ecologist to join our Energy Transition & Sustainability (ET&S) team on a 4-month fixed-term contract. We have shared office spaces in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Perth, and welcome applications from Ecologists across Scotland.
This role involves assisting with environmental inputs on various road contracts in Scotland, including the Southwest and Northeast Network Management Contract for Transport Scotland, and active travel schemes like AMIDS Renfrewshire. As a Seasonal Ecologist, you will support protected species surveys, draft reports on protected species and habitats, and assist Senior Ecologists.
The Role
Our Seasonal Ecologists play an important part within the ET&S team and collaborate with our clients. You will provide support to your Senior Ecologist on various ecological projects.
You will also support regional and national projects for a range of public sector clients across sectors such as highways, rail, local authorities, central government, aviation, and waste.
What You Will Bring
* A degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science (with a focus on ecology), or similar/equivalent.
* Experience in a professional ecological consultancy role.
* Qualifying membership of a Professional Body and Chartership (desirable, e.g., CIEEM).
* Progress towards Protected Species Licenses.
* Experience in protected species surveys and ecological report drafting, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Method Statements.
* Thorough understanding of UK wildlife legislation.
* Health and Safety awareness, especially regarding fieldwork.
* Effective communication skills.
* A full UK driving license.
