Overview
We have a new opportunity for experienced registered mental health professionals (RMN, Social Worker, Occupational Therapists) to join Access Mental Health services in a Senior Practitioner role. The post supports Dorset’s Mental Health Response Vehicles (MHRV), a partnership between Dorset Healthcare and SWAST. The post holder will work shifts on the MHRV, responsible for completing urgent and emergency mental health assessments for individuals presenting in crisis.
What you will do
* Work predominantly out of hours (16:00–02:00, 7 days a week) from SWAST ambulance stations in the East (Ferndown) and West (Dorchester or Weymouth).
* Cover across sites as needed for a pan-Dorset service; preferences for main base may be considered but service need takes precedence.
* Provide clinical decision making support to existing Access MH Teams, advise other agencies and emergency services, and conduct direct clinical work in urgent telephone and face-to-face mental health assessments.
* Complete urgent and emergency mental health assessments for those in crisis and work autonomously (on-call medical support is available).
* On the MHRV, hold an honorary contract with SWAST and have completed the mandatory training for this role.
* Work from either Connection (St Anns Hospital) or on one of the MHRVs, providing clinical expertise, advice, assessment and decision making out of hours.
Working arrangements
Full and part-time hours, with flexible working requests considered. Applicants must be able to work the 16:00–02:00 MHRV shift pattern.
Requirements
* Professional registration (RMN, Social Worker, or Occupational Therapist) and clinical experience in adult mental health crisis assessment.
* Ability to work autonomously without immediate supervision, with access to on-call medical support.
* Willingness to work across Dorset, including out-of-hours shifts on the MHRV.
