Main duties of the job
* To provide effective, efficient and high quality physiotherapy treatment programmes for respiratory patients in the community setting and within the pulmonary rehabilitation service. To lead assessments, group education sessions and exercise classes adjusting exercises according to patients' health status on that day.
* To be able to undertake oxygen therapy assessment and prescription (Long term oxygen therapy and ambulatory oxygen).
* To act as a source of expertise on the management of respiratory patients providing support and advice to other health professionals/agencies both within and external to the Trust
* To communicate with patients in a way that empowers them to make informed choices about the management of their condition and engages them in the planning and delivery of treatment. Taking into account cultural, linguistic, medical, emotional, psychological and physical factors and utilising available resources to facilitate effective communication.
* To communicate complex patient related information effectively, to ensure collaborative working within the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
* To liaise with all referring agencies to facilitate the provision of an effective and timely service.
* To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, ensuring a high standard of clinical care for patients under your care. To organise the clinical caseload showing good time management skills and have the ability to prioritise if necessary

* To manage clinical risk within own caseload and caseload of the team at all times and ensure clinical risk is effectively managed across the designated services, whilst also considering tasks given to support staff and rehabilitation assistants
* To assist in training, supervising, clinical development and performance management of more junior staff

* To communicate effectively, highly complex, complex and sensitive information with patients, carers, general medical practitioners (GPs), consultants and other agencies across health/social services in order to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of condition within individual treatment sessions and class settings. Communication skills of persuasion, motivation, explanation and gaining informed consent will be necessary with a variety of patients. Barriers to effective communication will regularly be evident e.g. loss of hearing, altered perception, expressive and receptive dysphasia pain and fear. Some patients will lack the capacity to consent. To ensure that patient information is managed professionally with consideration for patient confidentiality and in line with data protection guidelines.
* To be responsible for equipment used in carrying out physiotherapy duties, and to adhere to departmental policy, including competence to use equipment and to ensure the safe use of equipment by others through teaching, training and supervision of practice.

Essential
* oDegree or diploma in physiotherapy
* oRegistered with the Health Care Professions Council
* oUp to date relevant knowledge through evidence of Continued Professional Development including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to the clinical field

* oRecognised post-graduate qualification e.g. MSc in Respiratory Care
* oMembership of Special Interest Group: ACPRC / BTS
