Pharmacy Distribution Centre

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly warehouse team at NHSGGC Pharmacy Distribution Centre (PDC) and work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and automated environment at the heart of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's Pharmacy Services.

The PDC is a modern, high-volume, and state-of-the-art facility responsible for the procurement and distribution of all medicines and vaccines across hospitals, clinics, and community pharmacies in the region including Argyll & Bute in NHS Highland.

Your role will be to ensure the seamless and compliant supply of pharmaceutical products from our network of suppliers in line with NHSGGC Standing Financial Instructions

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

1. Location based in Pharmacy Distribution Centre
2. Full-time (37 hours per week) positions available
3. The shift pattern for this post is 10-6 4 days & 1 day 10-5.30pm TBC (Monday to Friday)

Key responsibilities:

4. Work collaboratively within a team under supervision, adhering to departmental standard operating procedures and NHSGGC policies.
5. Supply medicines to wards, theatres, departments, community areas, GP surgeries, Prisons, Police Custody, Highland and Island locations, and patient homes, including via automated cabinets.
6. Utilise computer systems and equipment necessary for service delivery, following a comprehensive training programme and validated induction process.
7. Respond promptly to requests for medicines and support technical tasks, ensuring timely provision to wards and departments.
8. Receive goods into the department, update the stock management system, and comply with SOPs, Good Distribution Practice (GDP), and the Falsified Medicine Directive (FMD).
9. Participate in the control of departmental stock, including ambient, controlled drugs, high-cost items, fridge lines, ULMs, and vaccines, ensuring documentation is completed and stored correctly.
10. Contribute to the delivery of a high-quality service, maintaining the integrity of medicinal products throughout storage and transportation within the legal supply chain.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

11. A general level of education and basic numeracy and literacy skills demonstrated by 3 Standard Grade Qualifications or equivalent, must include English and Maths.
12. Basic IT skills
13. Commitment to working towards achievement of relevant SVQ qualifications and participate in ongoing training and development.
14. Experience of training staff.
15. Experience of supervising staff.
16. Experience of working in a healthcare or similar environment.
17. Experience of stock management.
18. A keen eye for detail and a commitment to upholding quality and safety standards
19. Team players who are able to work under supervision and follow established procedures.
