The Environment Agency’s Monitoring Laboratories are accredited to ISO/IEC17025 and include 3 sites across the country – Leeds, Brampton and Starcross. This role is based at our Starcross site, which specialises in freshwater, saline and effluent analysis, - delivering core analytical work in parallel with investigational/project work for the EA and other government and commercial customers.
In this role you will:
Continually display safe working practices in line with Environment Agency guidance.
Behave in professional manner and set an example for colleagues in your department and across the laboratory
Be responsible for the analysis of Environmental samples to ensure effective delivery of a high-quality analytical service to set quality targets
Ensure Quality Control procedures are followed across all areas of the department.
Plan your own work throughout each week with support from a supervisor
Enjoy working as part of a team to deliver organisational goals
Be comfortable working in a busy lab environment, delivering at pace and communicating effectively within a team.
Be prepared to be flexible in your work area to reflect changing priorities within the team.
The team
You will be part of the Organic Chemistry team, which comprises approximately 30 team members and is responsible for a wide range of analytical methods that are essential in supporting the Environment Agency’s aims and objectives.
Experience/skills Required
You must:
Have experience and/or understanding of the techniques used in analytical Chemistry.
Have an understanding of QA/QC processes within a working laboratory.
Be able to work under your own initiative.
Have the ability to work cooperatively with team members to achieve results.
Be an effective communicator and able to develop and maintain relationships within the team.
Take an interest in your own professional development
You will also need to demonstrate the key capabilities as defined in the job profile.

The role is Monday to Friday based on a 37-hour week. This position is laboratory-based and travel is not required. There would be opportunities to volunteer for work related conferences or outcome days. Interviews to be held mid-July
