Principal Highways Development Coordinator South West England Local Authority £47 per hour Outside IR35 Hyrbrid We’re looking for a skilled Principal Highways Development Coordinator to help shape sustainable, strategic growth across the County. In this senior role, you’ll lead on planning application responses, negotiate developer contributions (Section 106), and represent the Highway Authority at key meetings. You’ll also guide junior staff and contribute to transport policy development. Key Responsibilities Engage in pre-application discussions with planning authorities, developers, and consultants. Review and assess Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, and other supporting documents. Provide professional highways and transport recommendations on planning applications. Represent the Highway Authority at planning committees, public inquiries, and site visits. Negotiate Section 106 contributions and support the delivery of funded infrastructure. Oversee legal agreements with developers and instruct major project teams. Line manage coordinators and technicians within your area. Support the development of transport policy and contribute to the Local Transport Plan. Mentor junior staff and contribute to the broader performance of the Highways Development Management team. Essential Experience: Strong background in highways development management within public or private sectors. Expertise in planning and highways legislation, including Section 106 agreements. Skilled in public presentation and representing technical matters in formal settings. Familiarity with transport modelling tools and engineering design standards. Experience in managing teams and working in politically sensitive environments. Some out-of-hours work may be required.
