Senior Systems Engineer About Brompton: Brompton is much more than a bicycle; it's a portal to urban freedom, a means to move around a city differently and to see it with fresh eyes. Over the past 50 years, we've become globally recognised as a British design icon, renowned for our craftsmanship, durability and sustainability. Small wheels with big ideals. Portable, foldable, unstoppable. At the heart of our success are the ingenuity and resilience embodied by our founder. In 1975, against all the odds, Andrew Ritchie designed a folding bike like no other. After years of rejection and ridicule, his invention found its place in the fabric of urban society. 1.2 million bikes later, with a retail footprint covering nearly 50 markets and with thousands of fan communities dotted around the world, Brompton is no laughing matter. These days, our commitment to creating world class products remains unwavering but it's accompanied by a broader aim of creating greener, safer, cycle-friendly cities where people can feel more connected, more present, more alive. If you're ready to unfold your imagination, expand your horizons and redraw your career map, read on to learn more about this unique opportunity! The Role We are seeking a hand-on systems engineer to join our team and help bring our future electric system to reality. You will work closely with software, electronics and mechanical engineers to integrate, validate and deliver our next generation drive system, while considering emerging technologies that could improve our architecture. This role combines systems thinking with a curiosity for future solutions. You will manage the development and integration of system components such as batteries and sensors, manage suppliers, and ensure the electric system meets key objectives safely and on time. You will have the opportunity to prototype new concepts, evaluate emerging technologies and help determine how and when they could integrate into our roadmap. The Person The successful candidate will thrive on bringing structure to complexity and won’t hesitate to get hands-on while solving complex system problems. You will be systematic when verifying requirements, yet flexible and creative when troubleshooting issues, assessing solutions or building prototypes. Clear communication, structured thinking, and a collaborative mindset are essential as you align technical decisions across disciplines. We’re looking for someone with practical problem-solving skills, who is comfortable experimenting with new ideas. The ideal candidate will be expected to assist in creating a positive and innovative atmosphere within the department. They must conduct themselves in a professional manner when handling a variety of challenging situations. What the job involves Assemble, integrate, and test electro-mechanical components, test rigs and full vehicle systems to validate technologies. Analyse and manage component requirements across the full product lifecycle. Manage interface specifications between subsystems, ensuring clear traceability to system tests and compliance with relevant standards. Maintain robust architecture definitions, perform trade-off analyses, and align component delivery plans with wider programme goals. Identify and evaluate innovative technologies for next-generation electric drive systems. Define evaluation criteria, proposing realistic roadmaps to bring suitable options into product development at the right time. Identify integration issues early, troubleshoot route causes and propose fixes or mitigations in a timely manner. Support safety analysis and product risk assessments. Drive continuous improvement of integration and testing practices. Contribute technical insight to next-generation product strategy discussions. Who you are Experience in an integration, development, validation or similar systems engineering based role, ideally within a safety-related industry (e.g. automotive, aerospace) or consumer product development. Hands-on experience prototyping, debugging or testing electro-mechanical systems. Ideally experienced in full project lifecycle and requirements management tools. Knowledge of systems engineering processes, with the ability to balance structure and innovation. Comfortable reporting progress, risks and issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience and knowledge on emerging battery, sensors and actuator technologies. Strong technical documentation skills and experience reviewing formal design material. Understanding of agile development processes is useful. Master’s/Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering or related field. A collaborative & communicative attitude to project working is highly desirable.
