About the Role

This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated teacher to step into a full-time, permanent Design & Technology role starting in September.The successful candidate will spearhead the curriculum's food division, taking responsibility for the progress, engagement, and practical development of secondary school students. The position demands a balance between technical culinary precision and the broader academic principles of food science, nutrition, and hospitality. The teacher will lead vibrant, hands-on lessons, ensuring that every learner acquires essential life skills alongside academic success.

Key Requirements

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Holds QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification.
* Enhanced DBS: A valid Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).
* Subject Knowledge: Deep understanding of current GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition exam board frameworks.
* Eligibility to Work: Valid legal entitlement to work full-time in the UK.

Key Skills

* Culinary Expertise: Advanced command over diverse cooking techniques, food preparation processes, and commercial kitchen machinery.
* Curriculum Design: Ability to structure and sequence engaging Food Tech projects aligned with National Curriculum and GCSE specifications.
* Classroom Management: Excellent capability to maintain calm, productive, and focused environments during high-energy practical sessions.
* Health & Safety Management: Sharp eye for maintaining rigorous hygiene, allergen awareness, and risk assessment protocols.
* Differentiated Instruction: Skill in tailoring complex practical tasks to support both high-achieving pupils and those with SEND needs.
* Formative Assessment: Ability to provide constructive, real-time verbal and written feedback to rapidly accelerate student progress.

Core Responsibilities

* Lesson Delivery: Plan and deliver high-quality, practical, and theoretical Food Technology lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
* Student Assessment: Grade coursework, practical exams, and theoretical assessments timely and in accordance with school policies.
* Safety Enforcement: Oversee the rigorous implementation of health, safety, and hygiene policies during every practical kitchen session.
* Material Preparation: Coordinate closely with design technicians to guarantee ingredients and equipment are precisely prepped ahead of schedules.
* Progress Tracking: Monitor, record, and report student attainment metrics, deploying targeted interventions where gaps arise.
* Parental Engagement: Participate in parents' evenings, write academic reports, and maintain open communication regarding pupil behaviour and success.
* Curriculum Development: Contribute actively to the continuous refinement and updating of the DT department's schemes of work.
* Enrichment Activities: Support or lead extra-curricular cooking clubs, competitions, or hospitality-based events within the school.
* Continuous Professional Development (CPD): Engage proactively in institutional training days, department meetings, and trust-wide learning workshops.
* Pastoral Support: Fulfil the duties of a form tutor, supporting the holistic emotional, social, and academic well-being of an assigned student cohort.
