Senior Linux / Unix Engineer
12‑Month Fixed Term Contract | London (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)
An opportunity for an experienced, hands‑on Linux Engineer to join a lean infrastructure team supporting business‑critical systems in a BAU‑heavy environment.
This is a replacement hire, ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, stability work, and improving automation within traditional on‑prem estates, with exposure to cloud as the platform evolves.
Key responsibilities
1. Support and maintain RHEL and Solaris environments (100-200 VMs)
2. BAU support, incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
3. Build, patch, upgrade, and lifecycle management of Linux/Unix servers
4. Improve automation and reduce manual operational tasks
5. Support infrastructure for critical financial applications
6. Participate in occasional weekend project work and a light on‑call rota
Technical environment
7. RHEL 7/8/9, Solaris 11
8. Ansible automation
9. Python and/or Bash scripting
10. Docker / Podman containers
11. Grafana and monitoring tools
12. Predominantly on‑prem, with early AWS adoption underway
Skills & experience required
13. Strong senior‑level Linux/Unix administration experience
14. Hands‑on experience with Ansible and scripting (Python/Bash)
15. Comfortable working in lean teams with high ownership
16. Experience supporting production environments and BAU workloads
17. Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred) is beneficial but not essential
