What skills and experience we're looking for

The Parent Support Advisor will play a vital role in supporting pupils to attend school regularly across both John of Gaunt School and Lavington School. Broadly speaking, this will require you to split your time between the two schools and the surrounding areas. You will be expected to build strong, trusting relationships with families and work collaboratively with school teams and external agencies. You will be a compassionate and proactive individual who understands the challenges families may face and is committed to removing barriers to education.

You will work closely with both pastoral and attendance teams to identify pupils with poor attendance, engage with families to understand underlying issues, and provide tailored support to improve attendance. This will involve visiting families at home and building trusting relationships. Your ability to listen, empathise, and problem-solve will be key in helping children re‑engage with learning and school life.

This role requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a solution‑focused mindset, and a genuine passion for making a positive difference in the lives of young people. You will be confident working independently and collaboratively, with a strong understanding of safeguarding, inclusion, and the importance of education in shaping futures.
