A well-regarded UK higher education institution, located on a large cfampus within easy commuting distance of central London (20–25 minutes by train to King's Cross or Moorgate), is seeking an experienced and proactive
University Secretary
to join on an interim basis during a significant period of institutional development.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO),
the University Secretary will play a critical role in shaping governance, risk, and compliance frameworks. This leadership position manages a team of five across governance, data protection, and committee administration.

Key Responsibilities:

* Serve as principal adviser to the COO, Council, and Executive on governance, risk, and compliance matters
* Lead the governance function and manage a team of five (Governance Officers, Data Protection Officer, Committee Administrators)
* Drive institutional risk management processes
* Oversee the administration and servicing of the University Council and other formal committees
* Champion best practice aligned with sector expectations, regulatory requirements, and the Nolan Principles

Candidate Profile:

* Extensive senior-level experience within UK higher education, with a deep understanding of governance best practice and regulatory frameworks
* Strong knowledge of the legal, policy, and constitutional context of UK universities
* Experience fulfilling responsibilities as a Data Protection Officer or equivalent in a UK organisation
* Proven leadership in institutional risk management processes
* Substantial experience of formal committee servicing, including writing and presenting papers
* Strong leadership and team management capabilities, particularly within professional services in higher education
