A Shift Manager in food manufacturing supports the Production Manager in overseeing daily manufacturing operations to ensure products are made safely, efficiently, on time, and within quality standards.
Responsibilities
* Production Operations
o Supervise daily production activities on the floor.
o Ensure production targets (volume, OEE, yield, efficiency) are met.
o Monitor workflow and adjust schedules as needed.
o Reduce downtime and improve productivity.
* Food Safety and Quality Compliance
o Ensure compliance with:
o HACCP
o GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
o FDA / local food regulations
o ISO / FSSC standards (if applicable)
o Monitor hygiene, sanitation, and CCPs (Critical Control Points)
o Coordinate with Quality Assurance teams
* Team Management
o Supervise line leaders and production staff.
o Conduct shift briefings.
o Train employees on SOPs and safety procedures.
o Handle attendance, discipline, and performance issues.
* Inventory and Materials Control
o Coordinate raw material availability.
o Minimise waste and product loss.
o Monitor packaging material usage.
* Equipment and Maintenance
o Ensure machinery is operating properly.
o Coordinate preventive maintenance.
o Report breakdowns and reduce production delays.
* Reporting and Documentation
o Maintain production reports.
o Track KPIs (OEE, yield, downtime, waste).
o Prepare daily/weekly performance summaries.
Skills and Experience
* Required Skills
o Strong knowledge of food safety regulations
o Proven leadership and people management skills
o Ability to problem:solve in a fast:paced environment
o Understanding of production planning
o Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
o Excellent communication skills
* Education and Experience
o Bachelors degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Industrial Engineering, or related field
o 3:5 years experience in food manufacturing
Working Hours and Environment
* 8 hour working day (plus 1 hour unpaid lunch; 9 hours on site)
* Monday to Friday
* Rotational shift pattern
* Occasional weekend work during peak periods or breakdowns
Operational Scope
* Responsibility for:
* 5 processing lines
* 14 packing lines
* Dispatch operations
* Managing approximately 300 flexible workforce staff
* Direct responsibility for developing and leading 8 Supervisors
* Fast paced production environment with frequent changeovers
* Experience in fresh food manufacturing (ideally protein based) preferred
