The Role As our Head of Engineering, you will play a pivotal leadership role, guiding both our product and customer engineering teams as they build high-impact, custom solutions. You will shape and execute Envitia’s engineering strategy, ensuring our technology is robust, scalable, and aligned with business and customer needs. Your expertise will drive innovation across design and engineering, enabling us to deliver secure, high-performance, and high-quality solutions. You will provide line management to our senior engineering staff, fostering a culture of excellence through coaching, mentoring, and professional development. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in software architecture and design, customer-facing engineering, and presales/bid activity. In this role, you’ll work closely with the CTO, Product Management, Delivery, and Sales/Account Management teams to ensure our engineering output supports customer success, commercial objectives, and Envitia’s long-term strategic direction. Responsibilities Architecture, Design Validation & Technical Governance Deliver solution architectures to solve customer problems during bids Oversee architecture and design reviews to ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions. Continually refine and enforce engineering standards, design principles, and best practices. Define and execute the engineering vision and roadmap in alignment with company strategy. Drive technical decision-making and risk management across projects. Sales & Account Management Collaboration Partner with Sales and Account Management to support pre-sales technical discussions, solution design, planning and estimating. Translate customer and commercial requirements into engineering designs. Contribute to winning work with our customers for example by presenting technical designs, architectures and projects as part of a bid. Provide strategic technical leadership touchpoint for our customers. Engineering Leadership Lead and grow high-performing teams across product and customer engineering. Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement. Manage our Engineering team to ensure continual team development. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with engineering QA to deliver cohesive and high-quality services. Act as a senior technical stakeholder in strategic planning and business alignment. Communicate engineering priorities, progress, and risks to executive leadership. Experience Required Technical Skills Strong background in software architecture and technical design. Experience with modern development practices (CI/CD, microservices, containerization). Familiarity with customer engineering tools and support workflows. Deep understanding of design validation, technical debt management, and system reliability. Leadership & Strategic Skills Strong background working with Sales/bid teams. Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical leadership. Experience scaling engineering functions in fast-paced, high-growth environments. Desirable Skills Experience in defence customer-centric software development. Security Clearance Requirements The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a SC level security clearance. Location The role will require travel to our Horsham offices 1 day a week.
