Offer description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Construction Buyer to join a highly respected organisation based in Stockport, where your expertise will play a pivotal role in shaping procurement strategies and delivering exceptional commercial results.

This position offers you the chance to work closely with experienced professionals across the business, ensuring that sourcing events and tenders are executed seamlessly within a supportive and collaborative environment. You will be empowered to influence key decisions, drive value through supplier relationships, and contribute to the ongoing success of the Commercial Services function. With a focus on professional growth, this role provides exposure to complex procurement activities, opportunities for cross-functional teamwork, and the satisfaction of seeing your efforts directly impact business performance. Flexible working opportunities and a culture that values knowledge sharing and continuous improvement make this an ideal next step for those looking to further their career in procurement.

What you'll do:

As a Construction Buyer, you will be at the heart of procurement, managing end-to-end tender processes, negotiating contracts, and collaborating with both internal teams and external suppliers. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve developing milestone plans for sourcing events, ensuring every activity aligns with governance standards while meeting tight deadlines. You will be instrumental in influencing specifications for products and services by balancing commercial priorities with operational needs. Success in this role requires excellent relationship management skills, attention to detail when handling numerical data or contractual documents, and a commitment to achieving results through collaboration.

* Work closely with the Category Manager to implement category strategies by managing tenders, negotiations, contract renewals, and other commercial interventions within specified categories.
* Deliver tender activities that meet business requirements while ensuring strict adherence to both internal policies and external regulatory frameworks.
* Influence product and service specifications by considering commercial aspects such as operational risk, economies of scale, efficiency improvements, and innovative solutions.
* Act as a trusted point of reference for colleagues regarding procurement processes and best practices, providing guidance and support as needed.
* Negotiate effectively with suppliers to secure optimal value on pricing, resolve performance issues, and manage contract extensions in line with organisational goals.
* Build and nurture relationships with suppliers who share the organisation’s values and cultural alignment, fostering long-term partnerships that benefit all parties involved.
* Engage with internal stakeholders to ensure client requirements are met consistently across agreements, supporting the delivery of high-quality services.
* Drive supplier development initiatives that encourage innovation and continuous improvement within the supply chain.
* Support broader commercial activities across multiple categories as required by the business needs, contributing positively to team objectives.
* Demonstrate positive management behaviours by role modelling adaptability towards change and effective communication throughout the Commercial Services function.

What you bring:

To excel as a Construction Buyer, you will bring substantial experience from previous roles involving complex tender management within large-scale commercial functions. Your background should include hands-on involvement in drafting tender documents, evaluating supplier proposals against detailed criteria, and negotiating contracts that deliver measurable cost savings without compromising quality or compliance. You are adept at interpreting procurement legislation so that every transaction meets legal standards while supporting business objectives. Your interpersonal skills set you apart, you know how to connect with colleagues from diverse backgrounds as well as external partners whose cooperation is essential for project success. A keen eye for detail ensures nothing is overlooked during contract reviews or budget assessments. Furthermore, your ability to remain calm under pressure allows you to juggle multiple priorities efficiently even when deadlines are tight. Professional qualifications such as CIPS membership would further demonstrate your dedication to continuous learning within the field.

* Professional accreditation through CIPS or equivalent is highly desirable for demonstrating your commitment to procurement excellence.
* Proven experience delivering tenders within complex commercial environments showcases your ability to manage multifaceted projects successfully.
* A thorough understanding of relevant procurement legislation ensures compliance across all sourcing activities undertaken in this role.
* A track record of achieving strong commercial outcomes highlights your capability to deliver tangible value for the organisation.
* Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal enable you to influence stakeholders at all levels effectively.
* Excellent relationship management abilities allow you to collaborate seamlessly with internal teams and external partners alike.
* Demonstrated capacity for balancing competing priorities in fast-changing environments ensures timely delivery of critical projects.
* Outstanding numerical skills paired with meticulous attention to detail guarantee accuracy in financial analysis and contract documentation.
* A full UK driving licence is required due to occasional travel between sites or meetings with suppliers.
