Job Title: Behaviour Mentor – Primary & Nursery
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Start Date: ASAP or Next Academic Term

About the School

This high-achieving yet inclusive Primary and Nursery School in Kensington is committed to delivering outstanding education while placing equal importance on emotional wellbeing, behaviour support, and early intervention. The school serves a diverse local community and prides itself on providing a calm, structured, and nurturing environment in which all children are supported to thrive.

Senior leaders understand that the foundations for learning, behaviour, and emotional regulation are established in the early years. As a result, the school has developed a strong pastoral and SEND framework to support pupils who experience difficulties with behaviour, emotional regulation, or social development. The school is now seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to support pupils across Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1.

Role Purpose

The Behaviour Mentor will work closely with pupils who require additional support to manage emotions, behaviour, and engagement with learning. Many of the children supported may present with SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD, attachment difficulties, or speech and language delays.

You will act as a consistent and trusted adult, helping pupils to feel safe, understood, and supported throughout the school day. Through positive relationships and structured interventions, you will support children to develop emotional awareness, self-regulation skills, and positive behaviour patterns.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide targeted 1:1 behavioural and emotional support

* Deliver small group interventions focusing on emotional literacy and social skills

* Support children within Nursery and classroom environments

* Assist pupils during transitions and daily routines

* Support behaviour during playtimes and lunchtime periods

* Implement individual behaviour support plans

* Use restorative, play-based, and trauma-informed approaches

* Work closely with class teachers, EYFS staff, and the SENCO

* Observe, assess, and track pupil progress

* Maintain accurate records and contribute to review meetings

* Build strong and respectful relationships with parents and carers

* Support safeguarding and child protection procedures

The Ideal Candidate

The school is seeking a calm, empathetic, and resilient individual with a genuine passion for supporting young children. You should have a strong understanding of early childhood development and the ability to respond to challenging behaviour with patience and consistency.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

* Experience in a Primary, Nursery, or EYFS setting

* Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, and attachment-based approaches

* A nurturing and consistent behaviour management style

* Strong communication and teamwork skills

* Emotional resilience and adaptability

* A reflective and proactive approach to supporting pupils

Qualifications in childcare, education, psychology, youth work, or mental health are desirable but not essential.

Training and Professional Development

The school offers excellent training and ongoing professional development. Behaviour Mentors receive regular supervision, access to specialist CPD, and opportunities to work alongside experienced SEN and pastoral professionals. This role is ideal for candidates considering future careers in teaching, SEN support, or educational psychology.

What the School Offers

* A supportive and inclusive working environment

* Strong leadership and a collaborative staff team

* Access to high-quality training and CPD

* A rewarding role with meaningful impact

* Opportunities for long-term and permanent employment
