Globe & Laurel Business and Production Manager Primary Role The Business and Production Manager (BPM) of the Globe & Laurel Magazine (G&L) is to assist the Editor (Ed) in producing bi-monthly editions of the G&L magazine as an unclassified journal, ensuring that activities and interests of the RM Corps are promulgated to the widest possible audience. Also to mirror the production of the magazine in the form of a digital (Cloud-based) version. Secondary Role The G&L Sec will provide graphics, subscription management, magazine production, digital edition production and branding/marketing/social media platform, as well as overall business management to the Ed to ensure the efficient and cost-effective daily running of the G&L, by means of the following Principal Tasks: Principal tasks Size, format, edit, enhance and store all imagery in readiness for page layout construction, proofing and printing for the production of bi-monthly hardcopy and digital editions of the G&L. Acquire imagery from MOD and private/public sources for the use in production and maintain an image archive/library. Design and produce RM related adverts for publication in the G&L and for use in branding/marketing articles in the digital edition and on social media. Provide ongoing business and financial management to the G&L as well as the management and maintenance of the subscriptions database ensuring that subscriptions are maintained and subscribers accounts are kept up-to-date at all times, enabling precise print run and dispatch data production on a bi-monthly basis. Ensure through liaison with RNRMC and RM Career Managers, that all serving Royal Marines, paying Corps Funds, receive their G&L wherever they serve/reside across the globe. Provide ongoing business and financial management to the G&L digital edition. Managing the Web reader and cloud-based software and application membership, ensuring the timely production, upload and publication of the digital edition in line with the hardcopy magazine production schedule. Supervise the resolution of subscriber account complaints/errors and maintain customer satisfaction. Liaise with Apple, Google and PocketMags Customer Services in relation to digital edition subscriber queries/complaints. Manage the access to and use of SECRET data ensuring SF personnel receive their magazines without OPSEC compromise. Manage the acquisition, servicing and replacement of all stand-alone specialist office and IT equipment, including stationery and peripherals, to maintain the effective production of the magazine and digital edition. Manage the collation of payments to the G&L by its individual subscribers, Apple, Google, PocketMags and PayPal. Produce accurate financial data to RNRMC via the G&L Finance Manager. Manage the distribution of the publication from the G&L offices onto an outside courier agent and via G&L/Corps Secretariat staff drivers. Design and produce dinner menus, table/seating plans and other Regimental stationery for RM Regimental Dinners and key RM/Corps Secretariat events. Oversee and advise the Secretaries on their roles, ensuring that all work is carried out in a timely and effective manner. Schedule, attend and minute the G&L Trustees Committee meetings and ensure distribution of the minutes iaw G&L Trustees Committee guidelines. Supply sample articles from the latest edition for advertising on RMA-TRMC RepNet, website and G&L Social Media platforms. Maintain and update the G&L website ensuring publication and subscriber application information remains current. Manage the G&L Social Media sites (Facebook, Instagram & ‘X’) ensuring the timely posting of relevant and engaging material, further promoting the G&L brand and digital edition sales. Maintain the acquisition and archiving of bound copies of the G&L and distribute to MOD and historical agencies/parties as per requirement. Manage the G&L individual magazine archive from the earliest editions in the 1890s through to the present day. Ensuring members of the Corps Family have access to historic editions/information upon request. Deliver briefs to Advanced Command Course students and CO Desig courses on G&L business and production principles. Supply CGRM’s office with ‘RM activity specific’ imagery and graphics for Parliamentary/Royal Household briefings/presentations. Training Requirements Basic A good knowledge of the Apple Mac operating system A good knowledge of the Windows operating system A good knowledge of database software principles A good knowledge of Cloud-based portal management Specialist In-depth knowledge of the following Apple Mac OS and industry standard publication/graphics software: Adobe Photoshop (graphic design, photo manipulation & enhancement) Adobe Acrobat Pro (PDF file construction, creation, editing and publication QuarkXpress (page layout, design and publication/print procedures) Image Capture (scanning) to create digital copies of hardcopy items for publication Microsoft Office for Mac (in particular Word, Excel and Powerpoint) Industry standard image file formats, preparation, conversion and compression In-depth knowledge of the following Database applications: CRM or Power Platforms Subscription Database systems, inputting and extraction of data for Magazine Print Run and Subscriber Management. Production and preparation of Reports for audit purposes. Manage the financial records/transactions of all subscription accounts. An understanding of the following digital publication software/procedures would be of benefit : Web Reader portal use Apple Developer account management, licensing and maintenance Google Plat account management, licensing and maintenance
