Job Summary
The Environment Agency is recruiting a fixed‑term Senior Energy Advisor, up to 2 years, to support the regulation of the energy sector, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The role is part of the Energy & Manufacturing Industries Regulation team and involves working across the sector to reduce greenhouse‑gas emissions and promote resilience.
Key Responsibilities
 * Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance and training.
 * Develop strategy for the energy sector and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
 * Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
 * Respond to incidents and provide business‑continuity support when required.
 * Support the development of new regulatory duties and the provision of training.
Required Skills & Experience
 * Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and actively encourage consideration of diversity in the workplace.
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role; gained by working within and/or regulating relevant processes, including knowledge of control measures for air emissions.
 * Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
 * Cooperate as part of a team to achieve common goals.
