About your new role
Reporting to the Technical Implementation Manager, you will be responsible for providing excellent IS Security support for the business.
You will be working at a technical level across a range of security technologies ensuring that through good communication, effective processes and procedures, and excellent documentation, we help the business continue with its success.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Tuning preventative and detective security systems in response to emerging threats.
2. Scheduling vulnerability scans, interpreting results, undertaking and/or monitoring any remedial actions.
3. In coordination with an external supplier, investigating security incidents to determine root cause, ensuring timely and accurate communication of incidents to relevant teams, and coordinating remediation activities.
4. Scheduling penetration tests and taking ownership of the resulting remedial actions.
5. Serving as an escalation point for the Service Desk and Return to Service teams on security issues.
6. Developing day-to-day operational IT procedures to maintain and improve our security posture.
7. Performing regular security and configuration checks, and capturing associated metrics.
8. Delivering technical projects to improve internal systems and processes.
9. Researching and learning about new technologies and threats to ensure security controls are current and optimal.
10. Creating and maintaining quality documentation for users and IT colleagues.
11. Dealing with queries professionally, promptly, and appropriately.
12. Collaborating with the IS Support Manager and other IS Managers to identify trends and proactive improvement opportunities to enhance IT operations.
13. Keeping skills up to date through learning and practice.
14. Maintaining a professional, helpful, and pleasant demeanor when dealing with business and customers.
15. Working hours as required, including outside normal working hours for scheduled tasks.
16. Carrying out ad-hoc site visits to Weightmans offices outside Liverpool when needed.
17. Performing other duties within the wider remit of the role.
About You
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
* Strong experience in roles such as Security, System, or Network Engineer.
* Experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, SIEM solutions, Firewall/Web Content Filtering, Federated Identity for cloud/SaaS, Microsoft IIS, and Anti-malware solutions like Defender ATP.
* Understanding and experience in Infrastructure Security, Web Application Security, and Active Directory Security.
* Strong teamwork skills, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
* Customer-focused mindset, aware of departmental expectations of IS.
* Effective communication skills with all levels of users, suppliers, and technical staff.
* Excellent written communication skills for documentation, procedures, and reports.
Desirable
* Experience in an IS environment aligned with ITIL principles.
* Scripting and automation skills.
