This large breast screening service offers excellent opportunities for both qualified Breast Radiographers and qualified Radiographers who would like to train in Mammography as part of our growing team and expanding service.
The chance to work across 2 hospitals, with 2 brand new mobile units, will enable the successful applicant to gain experience in a wide variety of scenarios including breast screening, breast symptomatic work and breast interventional clinics.
The staff are involved in all aspects of the breast care pathway, providing standard mammography, additional views, stereo biopsy, tomography and contrast‑enhanced mammography.
Successful applicants will be involved in standard breast screening which takes place at County Hospital and several locations across the North Midlands screening area serviced by a mobile demountable unit and a brand new mobile van.
Both the Royal Stoke and County Hospitals boast busy 2‑week wait/one‑stop clinics where the applicant will provide standard mammography, tomography and additional views, chaperone in ultrasound and provide biopsy support. The Royal Stoke unit has contrast‑enhanced mammography and offers the opportunity for staff to train in cannulation and gain experience performing this new technique.
Screening assessment clinics are carried out at both hospital sites and staff have a pivotal role, including staff who train further in clinical breast examination and advanced communication skills.
Mammography has excellent career prospects, particularly within the UHNM family, where advanced practice and career progression are actively encouraged and supported by both the Breast Service and the Imaging Directorate.
The team currently includes a Consultant Radiographer, 2 training Consultant Radiographers, 3 clinical specialists who have all three modules of advanced practice, and 11 advanced practitioners.
There is an exceptional in‑house training package, which includes a personal mentor to support successful applicants and ensure maximum exposure to learning opportunities and experiences.
