We are seeking reliable and conscientious individuals with a strong work ethic. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver a safe, high-quality, and effective service while striving for continuous improvement. The service serves a population of over 400,000 and is based at Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI). The successful candidate will be required to work at HRI. The department has full UKAS 15189 accreditation and IBMS approval for training.
The Biochemistry department is well equipped with Siemens Atellica CH and IM analyzers, along with semi-automated platforms such as Menarini 9210 Ghb analyzers, Sebia Hydrasys electrophoresis system, and Osmometer.
The department is looking to recruit an individual for maternity cover for 12 months, with a potential extension. Participation in the 24/7 rota at HRI, including lates and weekends, will be expected following training and competency assessments. Night shifts may also be required.
Applications are invited for a band 3 position. Previous laboratory experience is advantageous but not essential, as full training will be provided. Basic IT skills would also be beneficial.
This role requires the ability to communicate clearly with department staff, clinicians, nurses, GPs, patients, and external laboratories. Responsibilities include providing confidential, specialized, and sensitive diagnostic test results over the phone, and liaising with staff for safe and efficient operations.
The position requires good foundational theoretical knowledge, education/experience equivalent to NVQ Level 3, and the ability to understand routine and non-routine laboratory procedures after training.
