Overview
Finning (UK) Ltd is seeking an Engineer to join its industry‑leading field service department. The role involves working across sectors at the forefront of on‑site diagnostic and repair capabilities for Caterpillar products, including CAT engines, generators, and components. Locations: Leeds, Cannock, Cardiff, Glasgow.
Salary £38,500 - £43,800. Responsibilities
* Respond to customer field repair and service requests, diagnose issues, and provide detailed information to the customer and Finning to generate a cost/time‑effective quote.
* Provide an estimated arrival time at the customer site based on branch instructions, including customer location, machine, contact name, and problem details; liaise with site management to register presence and comply with on‑site procedures.
* Diagnose likely causes of equipment problems in discussion with customer operators/supervisors and using specialised equipment; communicate required work to the customer.
* Provide comprehensive details to enable Finning to construct a quote; identify required parts, requisition parts, and estimate delivery times to schedule service visits with the customer.
* Undertake repair and service work on a variety of Caterpillar engines and generators.
Education and Experience
* LDV driving licence. Formally trained (NVQ Level 3) or equivalent experience; served as a service engineer for a significant period.
* Experience with a variety of gas and diesel engines and generators, both LV and HV.
Knowledge
* Knowledge in the use of field‑based diagnosis tools and equipment; experience with assembly and disassembly of diesel engines and components (Caterpillar large engines e.g. 3400, 3500, 3600 series; MWM, MAK).
* Formally apprenticed/trained (NVQ Level 3) with substantial workshop engineering experience; familiarity with a range of gas and diesel engines and generators, LV/HV.
