Overview

How would you like to get paid for five days, but only work four? At Outcomes First Group, we believe in better work/life balance — and we’re putting wellbeing first. That’s why we’re proud to be part of a 4-Day Working Week (4DWW) trial, where you can work one day less each week (or equivalent hours), while still receiving your full-time pay. Many of our schools have already introduced the 4DWW and others are preparing to roll it out. Whether it’s already in place or just around the corner, now’s the perfect time to join #teamOFG.

Job Title: English Teacher

Location: Belmont Secondary School, Rawtenstall, BB4 6RX

Salary: up to £39,000 per annum dependant on experience (not pro rata)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday

Contract: Permanent, Term Time only

Start date: November 2025

This role does not offer sponsorship.

Application note: All applications must be completed IN FULL.

Are you an English Teacher with a passion for creativity, connection, and making a real difference? Belmont Secondary School, part of the Acorn Education family, is looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and committed English Teacher to join our welcoming and ambitious team. We’re a specialist setting for pupils who deserve another chance to thrive, and you could be the difference they’ve been waiting for.

About the Role

We’re looking for a motivated, energetic and compassionate English Teacher to join our team — someone who’s not afraid to think differently, teach differently, and lead with heart. You’ll teach in smaller groups, build meaningful relationships, and support pupils in ways that go far beyond the classroom. You’ll bring learning to life in a way that resonates with each individual pupil, designing lessons that inspire curiosity, encourage self-expression, and nurture both academic and personal growth. Working with senior leadership and specialist staff, you’ll help every learner take steps forward — whether that’s reading their first paragraph or finding their own voice for the first time.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver high-quality, differentiated English lessons that engage and challenge
* Teach small groups or individual pupils in a calm, supportive environment
* Track and assess progress, adapting teaching strategies for maximum impact
* Help shape individual learning and behaviour plans that support real outcomes
* Take responsibility for English subject leadership across key stages
* Contribute to school-wide improvement initiatives
* Foster a positive, respectful classroom culture in line with our school values
* Keep learning safe, structured, and full of possibility – on and off-site

Who we are looking for

Whether you’re an experienced SEN teacher or an English specialist ready for a rewarding new challenge — you’ll find purpose and passion here.

* A degree in English or a related subject
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or PGCE
* Strong subject knowledge and a creative, inclusive approach to teaching
* Experience of working with diverse learning needs and/or in a SEN environment
* A commitment to positive behaviour support, inclusion, and achievement for all
* Excellent communication skills, empathy, and a can-do attitude

About the School

Belmont Secondary is an independent, specialist day school for boys aged 11 to 18, catering for pupils with a wide range of needs. Our dedicated team works together to ensure successful outcomes for pupils who often arrive at the school with a troubled view of education and life. We pride ourselves in steering pupils in the right direction, nurturing aspiration to progress them both academically and socially, and encouraging pride in their achievements. This opportunity is within commuting distance of Rawtenstall, Bury, Burnley and surrounding areas.

We are proud to say that in 2024 Outcomes First Group were officially certified as a Great Place to Work for the fifth year running.

Why join Acorn Education?

We place the outcomes of the pupils and vulnerable young adults in our services at the heart of everything we do, so you’ll wake every day knowing your role will have a significant positive impact on the lives of others. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and young people. All applicants will be subject to social media checks and successful applicants to a fully enhanced DBS.

Benefits

Your health and wellbeing are important to us, so you’ll receive an exceptional reward package including:

* Life Assurance
* Pension scheme with options to increase your contributions
* Your Wellbeing Matters – access to a wide range of mental health support services and physical health checks
* Flexible Benefits Platform, Vista, offering options including health, wellbeing, insurance benefits, discounts, Cycle to Work, Electric Car Purchase Scheme, critical illness cover, and Family Growth Support (enhanced maternity/paternity leave and paid fertility treatment support)

We reserve the right to close the vacancy early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications.

*You’ll work 80% of your contractual hours for 100% of your pay, giving you more time to do the things that make you happy. 4DWW is subject to successful completion of probation and is not a contractual benefit.
