Summary
Under the general supervision of the Principal or other supervisor, the Preparation Time Specialist teaches classes and/or supervises students during teacher preparation periods. Responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, classroom materials, and providing instruction in specialized subject areas such as music, art, science, computer operations, media center usage, physical education, languages, and health.
Description
This classified position is open to all qualified applicants. Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, June 3, 2025. The position involves working 2.8 hours per day for 174 days per year, with a salary grade of 6 at $19.60 per hour (2025-26 Support Salary Table). Promotions may result in a minimum increase of 5%. Hours are approximate.
General Function: Under supervision, the Preparation Time Specialist teaches or supervises students during teacher preparation periods, prepares lesson plans, and provides instruction in specialized subject areas such as music, art, science, computer operations, media center usage, physical education, and languages.
Educational Requirements:
* High school graduation or equivalent education/experience.
* Formal education or training in the specialized area is preferred.
* Educational qualification: the equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) of full-time higher education, an associate's degree, or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test (to be taken later).
Knowledge & Ability:
* Knowledge of subject matter areas related to assigned courses.
* Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with students, teachers, and staff.
* Ability to effectively teach assigned subjects.
Job-Related Experience:
* None required.
* Experience working with children is preferred.
