Job Description Capability Programmes Engineer Derby - Hybrid 3 days a week on site Permanent, 37 hours perk week Rolls-Royce are looking for a Capability Programme Engineer to join our team in Derby. In this role, you will play a key part in researching and developing innovative maintenance, repair, inspection, and digital processes to support our in-service fleet and future aerospace products to support Engineering for Service future strategy. You will directly contribute to enhancing the performance of Rolls-Royce and its customers and gain valuable hands-on experience in our world-class laboratories. Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It's a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we're all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week. What you will be doing Research and develop novel maintenance, repair, inspection, and digital solutions to meet business and customer needs. Develop novel ideas to help returning service-run a serviceable condition and improve the time in-service of our products, using a variety of manufacturing and laboratory processes. Define and maintain technical requirements for component repair, maintenance and inspection processes and ensure compliance with them. Verify and validate repair, maintenance and inspection methods, ensuring all engineering, design and specification requirements are fully understood, implemented and recorded. Create and maintain strong relationships with customers to ensure technical solutions meet agreed requirements. Identify and close technology gaps for novel technologies in the Engineering for Service world and contribute to their industrialisation Manage research and technology projects to ensure that activities remain on-time, on-cost, and on-quality. Capture intellectual property such as via patent filings to ensure Rolls-Royce are able to access and utilise strategically important technologies. Support the academic network including launching new research projects and supervising PhD students working on next-generation technologies. Disseminate technical updates through internal forums and, where appropriate, at global conferences and via research papers. These principles shape the behaviours we expect and are key to our assessment process. Key Experiences and Qualifications A relevant technical degree or equivalent industrial experience. Knowledge of functionality of relevant components and systems, with consideration of form, fit and function. Understanding of system, subsystem and component design, and the impact of repairs maintenance and inspection on the greater system. Knowledge of material properties, including chemistry, structure, mechanical and chemical performance. A mindset for creating innovative technical solutions with a lifecycle cost philosophy. A general understanding of manufacturing processes, with detailed knowledge of those relevant to your role. Awareness of regulatory and industry codes/standards (e.g. design codes). Additional skills and attributes valued in this role: Basic understanding of project management principles. Basic understanding of digital solutions Strong problem-solving skills. Collaborative working style including building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. A genuine interest in mechanical engineering and innovation including but not limited to themes such as automation, machine vision, additive manufacture, digitisation.
