The Role
As a Junior Estimator at TruTrade, you'll support our clients by producing accurate and detailed cost estimates, takeoffs, and bill of quantities across a variety of residential construction projects. You'll be part of a collaborative, ambitious team with plenty of opportunity for learning, progression, and career development in a fast-paced but supportive environment.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
* Computer literate with confidence using digital tools
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy
* Excellent organisational and time management skills
* Positive attitude and willingness to learn
* Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Desirable (but not essential):
* Background in Quantity Surveying (PQS) or with a main contractor
* Previous experience in an estimating role
* Familiarity with residential project takeoffs or cost planning
* Experience using estimating or takeoff software (e.g., Price-A-Job)
* Understanding of new-build residential construction
Key Responsibilities
• Cost Estimation – Interpret architectural drawings, complete takeoffs, and prepare accurate bills of quantities.
• Use of Estimating Software – Create and manage estimates using Price-A-Job and other tools to ensure efficiency and consistency.
• Client Communication – Communicate with clients via phone and email to clarify scope, answer estimate-related queries, and support project delivery.
• Market & Cost Analysis – Research and analyse labour, material, and subcontractor costs to produce competitive pricing.
• Process Improvement – Support refinement of estimating procedures and assist in developing internal best practices.
• Business Support – Contribute to marketing initiatives and business development during quieter periods (e.g., content creation, outreach).
Key Goals & Objectives
* Produce clear, accurate estimates aligned with client budgets and project scope
* Meet turnaround targets: deliver estimates within 5 working days of brief
* Ensure estimate accuracy and consistency to minimise revisions
* Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers/subcontractors to validate pricing
* Continually improve estimating efficiency and workflow through better use of tools
* Support service growth by helping promote TruTrade's estimating offering
