About us
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is a fascinating place in which to forge your career. Tasked with keeping Britain moving safely and sustainably, we have a significant impact not only on road safety, but also on the life moments that can only be enjoyed when people can easily travel to their destinations. As a Driving Examiner you will be at the heart of this mission, helping to ensure people get their driving future off to a great start. We are looking for proactive, friendly and safe drivers who would like to train to become fully qualified Driving Examiners.
Training & Development
We will provide all the training you need to get your career off to an incredible start. Once a job offer has been made, you will start your training online, before undertaking practical training at a local test centre. When this stage is complete, you will have up to three weeks of guidance at one of our regional training facilities before embarking on a fulfilling and varied career assessing the readiness of drivers who are seeking to secure their licences.
Responsibilities
On a day-to-day basis, you can expect to meet people from all walks of life as you oversee seven driving examinations a day. You'll use your exceptional people skills to put nervous customers at ease as you talk them through your instructions. Using a tablet to record your results, you will determine whether they meet the expected standards and deliver both positive and negative outcomes with tact and diplomacy.
What you need
• A UK or EU driving licence held for at least three years.
• No more than three penalty points on your licence.
• Good knowledge of the Highway Code and correct road procedures.
• Friendly, team‑spirited attitude and passion for setting high standards.
• Strong verbal and non‑verbal communication skills, inclusive and respectful.
What we offer you
An excellent work‑life balance with flexible working options, 25 days of annual leave, all public holidays and an extra privilege day to mark the King’s birthday. We also provide ongoing training and development, an employer pension contribution of up to 27%, and a rewarding, varied career.
If you are ready to embark on an interesting career where no two days are the same, then don’t hesitate to get in touch.
