An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 6 month secondment post, as a band 6 clinical sister in the Endoscopy Unit at James Cook Hospital.
The successful candidate will use their professional judgement and assume responsibility and accountability for assessing, implementing and evaluating clinical care for patients to meet their needs in a safe caring environment that promotes dignity, privacy and respect.
The post holder will be expected to develop knowledge and skills within the speciality and will assist in the management and organisation of nursing work in the unit within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, and provide information and support to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will supervise the working of health care workers in the unit and support the training and assessment of student nurses. The post holder will deputise in the absence of the Unit manager. Responsibilies will include coordinating a busy Endoscopy Department at James Cook Hosptial and Redcar Primary Care Hosptial, as well as, providing across site cover for the Friarage Hospital. The post holder must demonstrate the Trust Values and Behaviours for nursing and midwifery staff at all times, and provide clinical management and leadership, advice and support to all relevant personnel working within the unit for a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in gastroscopy, PEG, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and bronchoscopy.
The post holder will be expected to participate in an on call rota for out of hours emergency procedures
The post holder has a duty of care to patients and are expected to comply fully with best practice standards and comply with trust policies for personal and patient safety and the prevention of healthcare associated infections.

Working for our organisation
The Endoscopy service is part of Directorate of Gastroenterology which offers care across both South Tees NHS Foundation Trust sites at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and The Friarage Hospital, Northallerton.
Endoscopy, at the James Cook site, is a purpose built 4-room Endoscopy unit which specialises in therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. With the exciting development of an additional procedure room, including state of the art equipment, this is an excellent time to join the expanding service and team. Full training will be offered to the successful candidate with a handover from the current post holder. The post holder may be required to work at either The James Cook University Hospital and Friarage Hospital sites or elsewhere as required by the Directorate.
