Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver creative, engaging learning activities and experiences that meet all EYFS areas of learning (Communication & Language; Physical Development; Personal, Social & Emotional Development; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World; Expressive Arts & Design).
* Establish and maintain a classroom environment that is safe, caring, well-organized, and supports both child-initiated and adult-led learning.
* Use continuous provision and play-based learning effectively, ensuring children are motivated, curious and developing independence.
* Observe, assess and record each child’s learning and development; use this information to inform planning and to support any additional needs.
* Maintain accurate records, produce reports for parents / carers, and participate in parent-teacher meetings.
* Ensure high standards of behaviour through positive reinforcement, routines and expectations appropriate to early years (promoting social development, resilience, cooperation).
* Differentiate teaching to meet the individual needs of children, including those with special educational needs, English as an additional language, or other barriers to learning.
* Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, nursery nurses, TAs and other support staff to deliver a coherent early years curriculum.
* Contribute to a team ethos: liaise with colleagues; share good practice; participate in staff meetings, training and school development initiatives.
* Ensure that statutory safeguarding, health & safety, and welfare requirements are met; maintain appropriate records and procedures.
* Engage with parents and carers, fostering strong home-school partnerships and communicating children’s progress, achievements and areas for development.

Person Specification: Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Requirement Essential Desirable
Qualifications Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent Early Years Initial Teacher Training (EYITT) or specialist EYFS qualifications
Degree in Education, Early Childhood Studies or related field Additional training in early years pedagogy, phonics, etc.
Experience Experience of teaching within EYFS settings (nursery or reception) Experience of leading EYFS or Early Years provision / coordination
Knowledge & Understanding Deep understanding of the EYFS framework, Development Matters, Birth-to-5, etc. Knowledge of up-to-date practice: phonics, early reading/writing, number work; experience with continuous provision
Classroom Skills Ability to plan differentiated learning; strong behaviour management; excellent classroom organisation Experience of outdoor learning; using technology / digital tools in EYFS; knowledge of special educational needs / inclusion practices
Personal Skills / Attributes Good communication skills (with children, parents, colleagues); empathetic, patient, nurturing; creative; reflective practitioner; ability to adapt Leadership qualities; mentor for ECTs / newer staff; contribution to whole-school culture
Other Requirements Enhanced DBS clearance; Safeguarding training; First Aid (Early Years) Experience of working in diverse / multicultural communities; willingness to liaise with external agencies (speech & language, health, etc.)
