This role will provide specialist environmental advisory support to site operations and project stakeholders, ensuring environmental compliance, regulatory alignment, and effective environmental management across complex life sciences environments.

The Opportunity
You will provide environmental subject matter expertise to support operational and project compliance with UK environmental legislation, environmental permits, and corporate SHE standards across a range of projects.
The role focuses on environmental compliance, regulatory engagement, environmental management system support, and environmental risk management, ensuring the organisation meets legal obligations and maintains best practice environmental performance.
You will work closely with operational teams, project stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to support environmental compliance while promoting a strong environmental culture across the site.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist environmental advice to operational teams, infrastructure development programmes, and project stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, and corporate standards
* Deliver day-to-day environmental compliance support in line with agreed service levels
* Monitor compliance with the site’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and support continual improvement
* Maintain and develop environmental procedures and legal compliance documentation
* Act as subject matter expert for environmental permit related training and competency requirements
* Conduct or support environmental impact assessments for operational activities and projects, identifying risks and mitigation measures
* Act as Waste Management SME, supporting waste strategy, contracts, operational waste management and compliance obligations
* Ensure compliance with waste regulations, exemptions, registrations, and reporting requirements
* Support regulatory submissions including environmental permit reporting, pollution inventory returns, and other regulatory obligations
* Provide technical support relating to effluent control, contaminated land, and environmental permitting requirements
* Manage environmental monitoring programmes to meet regulatory permit obligations
* Conduct or support environmental audits, surveys, and compliance reviews
* Provide SME input to site legal compliance forums
* Support environmental awareness, training, and competency development across multiple projects
* Promote best available environmental practices and technologies
* Support emergency response planning for environmental incidents such as spills, abnormal discharges, or permit deviations
* Support investigation of environmental incidents including root cause analysis and corrective actions
* Provide environmental compliance advice for capital projects, operational changes, and infrastructure developments
About You
Essential
* Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, or related discipline
* Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and compliance frameworks
* Experience working with environmental permitting regulations (EPR)
* Experience supporting ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
* Experience conducting environmental impact assessments and compliance reviews
* Knowledge of waste management regulations and environmental compliance requirements
* Experience working in regulated or industrial environments
* Strong stakeholder communication and advisory skills
* Ability to interpret legislation and apply it in operational and project environments
Desirable
* Experience within pharmaceutical, life sciences, or regulated manufacturing environments
* Experience working within large campus or complex operational sites
* Experience supporting environmental compliance for capital projects or infrastructure developments
* Knowledge of effluent management, contaminated land, and environmental monitoring programmes
* Professional membership (e.g. IEMA or CIWEM)
* Experience managing environmental audits and regulatory inspections
