Welcome from the Principal: I am proud to introduce you to Outwood Academy Hemsworth, an 11-18 Academy in the Historic Market Town of Hemsworth, West Yorkshire. We have a relentless focus on learning, underpinned by a curriculum designed to stretch and enrich every student. As part of the Outwood Family since 2018, we provide the very best, holistic education within a safe and secure community. We recently completed a multi-million pound development, including a new 17-classroom teaching block, and are proud to hold Gold Status from the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health. We actively work to reduce staff workload, allowing more time to focus on our vision: students first, raising standards, and transforming lives. Whether you are ambitious for progression or determined to be an outstanding classroom teacher, this is the place for you. If you share our passion for making a real difference, we would be delighted to welcome you to our team. About the Department: Our Science department is a vibrant and collaborative team, bringing together a wide range of specialisms and experience. We are a supportive environment where colleagues at every stage of their career are encouraged to develop, grow and thrive. The department is led by a Head of Department, with two Seconds in Science and seven Teachers of Science. We are fortunate to be supported by two exceptional Science Technicians who play a vital role in enriching teaching and learning by bringing practical science to life. In addition, our Science SSIP provides further dedicated support to the team. Every teacher benefits from a fully equipped laboratory that they can personalise as their own teaching space. Our schemes of work are fully resourced, enabling staff to focus on high-quality teaching and adapting lessons to meet the needs of all learners. Inclusion is central to our ethos; we firmly believe that every student is capable of success. At Key Stage 4, students follow the AQA GCSE Science specifications. At post-16, we offer a T-Level in Health, providing students with an excellent blend of classroom-based learning and meaningful industry placement. The ability to contribute to the delivery of T Level Health would be desirable, but is not essential.
