The School of Technical, Construction and Motor Vehicle at Carshalton College is seeking a Workshop Assistant to provide technician support in Construction with the following specialisms: Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, Bricklaying and Multi-skills.
You will carry out the maintenance of the workshops and equipment for Construction and, if required, Engineering, and maintain stock levels and inventory, including equipment and materials. You will assist in stock control and manage deliveries of Construction equipment and consumables, supporting academic staff and technician staff in stores and workshops.
We are looking for someone with vocational or trade qualifications (at least Level 2 NVQ) in trades such as Carpentry and Joinery, Plumbing, Electrical installation, or related areas. You should have practical experience in one or more of these trades and in providing technician support in a Construction Department or similar environment.
You should be able to set up, monitor, and maintain administrative systems, possess a strong understanding of Health and Safety and Welfare legislation, and be capable of implementing improvements. Effective communication skills, the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines, initiative, organization, and prioritization skills are essential.
