Main duties of the job

You will work in our ophthalmology services with cross site, rotational working as we require through all our service departments from outpatients to our surgery day case.

Outpatient services – you will work in and manage our nurse led specialist clinic services. You will provide leadership and coordinating duties to support our patients and clinicians, as well as supporting our healthcare assistant conducting various visual assessments, diagnostic tests and imaging clinics.

Day Case unit – you will support patients preparing for ophthalmic surgery; ensuring they receive safe, personal and effective care throughout their stay and act as the patients’ advocate.

You will demonstrate a passion for improving the patient and relative experience and have a sound clinical knowledge base. In addition to this, you will possess well developed communication skills that will be used to engage, inspire and motivate both staff and patients in the clinical area.

Good time management skills are essential, as is the ability to prioritise your workload.

You will support training programs, teach and assess competence of junior staff in the service and support professional development of the team and self.

You will participate in improvements and attend relevant service meetings.

Established in 2003 East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is a large integrated health care organisation providing high quality acute secondary healthcare for the people of East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen.

We currently provide high quality services and treat over 700,000 patients a year from the most serious of emergencies to planned operations and procedures. We employ over 8,000 staff, many of whom are internationally renowned and have won awards for their work and achievements.
Our Ophthalmology services are spread across three main sites, the Royal Blackburn and Burnley general hospital and the St Peters centre Burnley. We also run a peripheral clinic based at Clitheroe community hospital.

Outpatient services - Monday to Friday 8am till 17.00 / 18.00
Day case Monday to Friday 0730 – 1800/1900 with commitment to covering 0830 – 1400 Saturday and Sunday as part of a team roster.
There is opportunity to offer flexible working arrangements where services allow.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate holistic, individualised patient care. Carry out all forms of patient care without direct supervision.

To provide advice and support junior staff and learners in all aspects of delivering Safe, Personal and Effective Care across all our service areas; The Royal Blackburn Hospital, Burnley General Hospital, St Peters Health Centre and Clitheroe Hospital.

Ability to demonstrate the Trust Values, Behaviours and Attitudes at all times.
