We're looking for a passionate and skilled Specialist Family and Systemic Psychotherapist to join our CAMHS Intellectual Disabilities Team. In this vital role, you'll support children and young people with intellectual disabilities and work closely with their families to improve communication, strengthen relationships, and help them move forward together.
You'll bring systemic thinking to our multidisciplinary team, offer specialist therapy, and provide consultation and formulation to colleagues working with complex family situations.

Main duties of the job
* Provide highly specialist systemic and family therapy to children and young people with intellectual disabilities and their families.
* Deliver comprehensive systemic assessments, formulations and evidence-based interventions for complex mental health presentations.
* Offer consultation, advice and clinical supervision to MDT colleagues and wider agencies.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, safeguarding discussions and multi‑agency planning, contributing expert systemic input.
* Contribute to service development, audit and research, supporting continuous improvement within CAMHS ID.
* Manage a specialist clinical caseload, including risk assessment, care planning and outcome monitoring.

Job responsibilities
We are seeking a Specialist Family and Systemic Psychotherapist to join our CAMHS Intellectual Disabilities (ID) Team. You will provide highly specialist systemic assessments, formulations and family therapy to children and young people with intellectual disabilities and their families, many of whom present with complex developmental and emotional needs.
Your responsibilities will include delivering evidence‑based systemic interventions, undertaking risk assessment and care planning, managing a specialist caseload, and contributing expert systemic insight to MDT discussions, safeguarding meetings and multi‑agency work. You will also offer consultation, clinical supervision and training to colleagues and partner agencies, supporting a systemic culture across the service.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary CAMHS colleagues, social care, education and wider health partners to ensure integrated, high‑quality care for young people. The role also involves contributing to service development, audit and research to support ongoing improvement within the CAMHS ID pathway.
Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.
You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.
Person Specification
Qualifications – Academic / Craft / Professional
* MSc qualification in Systemic Psychotherapy or AFT accredited equivalent (usually academic study, assessed clinical training and supervised practice including the full range of models within systemic practice and life span development) – OR WORKING TOWARDS.
* UKCP registration
* Training in other relevant therapeutic modalities
* Leadership qualification or recognised training
* Qualification in clinical supervision recognised by an accrediting body
Training
* Trained in delivery of clinical supervision
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* To have undertaken statutory child safeguarding training
* Training specific to the needs of young people with mental health disorders
* Leadership training/qualification
* Teaching training/qualification
Contractual Requirements
* Full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post

Experience
* Relevant practice in first profession plus clinical experience as above
* Experience of working with children, young people who have mental health difficulties/diagnoses and their families
* Experience of working with diverse service user groups
* Experience of maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and threat of physical abuse
* Experience of working in a family therapy setting or service and reflecting a team approach
* Experience of consultation and/or training to primary care or other staff supporting Children and their families
* Experience of working across a broad range of care groups including children within the community, developmental difficulties including LD & ASD and or physical health needs
* Experience of leadership of teams and clinical staff
* Experience of clinical supervision of qualified and trainee Family Therapists/ Systemic practitioners
Knowledge
* Knowledge of the theory and practices of specialist family therapies and clinical supervision as practiced within the field of systemic psychotherapy
* Knowledge of approaches or models of working relevant to CAMHS e.g., attachment models, parenting approaches
* Knowledge of guidelines/policy informing best practice within mental health services for children and families
* Knowledge of research and models of good practice that inform direct and indirect working
* Knowledge of evidenced treatments when working with young people with a mental health disorder
Skills
