Senior Bookkeeper

?? Location:Ashton Under Lyne - Manchester
? Hours: 37.5 per week (Monday to Friday)
?? Flexible working between 8:30am 6:00pm (office-based)

The Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Bookkeeper to join the team. Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, you will play a key role in overseeing client work, supporting and mentoring junior team members, and ensuring high standards of service and compliance.


Key Responsibilities
* Oversee and manage a small team, including trainees and junior bookkeepers.

* Support the training and development of team members.

* Plan and supervise client compliance work across a diverse portfolio.

* Prepare accounts, VAT returns, and financial reports to strict deadlines.

* Allocate and manage workflow effectively to maximise efficiency.

* Report to senior managers and contribute to regular meetings.

* Handle external communications with HMRC and third parties.

* Manage client queries, providing a high level of service and advice.

* Carry out general administrative and ad hoc duties as required.


Qualifications & Experience
* AAT qualified or ACCA part-qualified.

* Minimum 2 years experience in an accountancy practice (essential).

* Proven experience in:

o Bookkeeping and payroll processes.

o Accounts preparation.

o VAT preparation and submissions.

o Attending client meetings and responding to queries.

o Liaising with HMRC and external organisations.

o Supervising and mentoring junior staff.


Key Skills
* Proficiency in Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, DEXT, and Sage Cloud Accounting.

* Strong IT skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

* Confidence in handling client interactions and resolving queries effectively.
