The EPDC is BIOS’s one steering committee. The overarching purpose of this committee is to promote, oversee and facilitate professional education,
development and standards in Orthoptics at all stages of training and professional practice. The roles of the committee include to:
* Contribute to the strategic development of undergraduate education;
* Engage with national policy and groups relating to undergraduate and postgraduate orthoptic education;
* Provide accreditation of clinical placement sites;
* Provide training for clinical education tutors;
* Develop and update guidelines and standards for BIOS;
* Provide accreditation of postgraduate courses;
* Provide accreditation of undergraduate programmes;
* Approve and provide governance of Clinical and non-clinical advisory groups (CAG and NCAG);
* Organise the speaker programme for the BIOS Conference;
* Facilitate development of professional development activities and courses.
Applicants should be members of BIOS and work in a majority clinical role within Northern Ireland. They will serve an initial term of office of three years, which may be extended for a further term of three years.
