Fire Test Technician
Pay Rate: £13.00 per hour (rising to £13.45 in April), overtime rates applicable
Hours: 7:00am - 4:00pm (42.5 hours per week) + one late shift per week
About the Role
We are looking for a practical, detail‑driven Fire Test Technician to join a specialist fire testing team. In this hands‑on role, you will support the setup, installation, instrumentation, and execution of fire resistance tests in accordance with British and European standards. Working alongside Technical Officers and construction operatives, you'll be involved in preparing test specimens, conducting tests, and ensuring accurate documentation throughout.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys technical, practical work and evidence‑based evaluation within a laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
Install fire testing specimens following technical instructions.
Implement instrumentation on specimens in line with relevant standards.
Conduct fire tests depending on experience and competence level.
Maintain accurate records of instrumentation, measurements, and test outcomes.
Support fire resistance testing using specialist furnace equipment.
Assist in building supporting constructions as required.
Dismantle and dispose of test specimens and constructions post‑test.
Maintain a clean and organised laboratory environment.
Carry out additional duties relevant to the role.
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong practical problem‑solving ability.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Accurate record‑keeping experience.
Understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
Highly organised with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Consistently high-quality work standards.
Competent with Microsoft Office.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
HND in Engineering, Scientific, or related discipline (or equivalent).
Experience in a similar role, ideally in a laboratory or technical testing environment.
Knowledge of construction processes and associated technical risks.
