Job Description:

Gaydon, Whitley

Hybrid working is potentially available, depending on the area and manager. JLR is a multi-site business and you’ll be required to spend time working with different departments at several locations.

Our undergraduate programmes offer a direct pipeline to our graduate scheme, which is not eligible for sponsorship. Therefore, JLR will only accept applications for this programme from candidates who would have the right to work in the UK at the point that they would successfully convert to the graduate scheme.

ACHIEVE THE EXCEPTIONAL

Your placement year at university could not have come at a more exciting time. The undergraduate placement at JLR launches you into the heart of automotive innovation. Apply your learning, satisfy your curiosity and prepare for a long, successful career alongside industry experts. Arrive curious. Discover opportunity.

Your future starts here.

PRODUCT ENGINEERING: ELECTRICAL AND COMPLEX SYSTEMS UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME

At JLR, we design, engineer and build the vehicles of the future. And powering those vehicles are the automotive systems that give our customers cutting-edge features like assisted and automated driving.

This year-long undergraduate programme will introduce you to those systems and give you the technical skills and practical experience you need to become a successful engineering professional. You could be working in one of the following departments: Engineering Propulsion (EP), Digital Product Platform (DPP), Engineering Business Excellence, Engineering Body Chassis (EBC) or Engineering Operations (EO).

Below you can find out more about the teams you could be working in. The team you’re placed in will depend on your personal preferences and business needs.

ENGINEERING PROPULSION (EP) TEAM

Propulsion engineering at JLR is evolving—bringing power, performance, and connectivity together to create the future of exceptional and environmentally friendly driving experiences. Our iconic brands are the foundation of British engineering, and now we’re using cutting-edge research and technology to develop the next generation of electric drive units, energy storage devices, engines, batteries, transmissions, and drivelines.

We’re a global team, with testing facilities and offices worldwide. With a £15bn investment in electrification, Propulsion is where modern luxury comes to life.

As part of Propulsion, you’ll be vital in securing JLR’s future as a leader in premium, sustainable electrified vehicles, supporting our Destination Zero commitment by 2039.

DIGITAL PRODUCT PLATFORM TEAM

Our Digital Product Platform team designs, develops, and shapes the future of our electronics and complex systems. You could be involved in designing, developing, and validating JLR’s innovative technology solutions or focusing on model development and simulation at system or component levels. Your work will help us deliver premium features and consistent quality.

ENGINEERING BODY CHASSIS (EBC) TEAM

The Engineering Body Chassis team develops the visible and touchable parts of our cars. We collaborate closely with creative studios to turn concepts into engineering reality, considering performance, manufacturability, sustainability, cost, and weight.

If you join this team, you’ll develop real-world engineering solutions, learning to use tools and methodologies to create and optimize engineering solutions for new and existing products. This role will elevate your profile across the business through collaboration with various stakeholders, accelerating your development as an engineer.

ENGINEERING OPERATIONS (EO) TEAM

Engineering Operations supports innovation and product delivery with modern tools, processes, and technical services. Our diverse team works on project management, data analytics, prototype building, and testing, impacting every stage of engineering.

If you join us, you’ll rotate through different divisions within Engineering Operations, working on business-critical projects with advanced technology. You’ll take on responsibilities aligned with your skills and interests, supported by a mentor, and contribute to transforming our engineering processes.

YOUR DEVELOPMENT

Our undergraduate programmes aim to develop your curiosity and creativity over 12 months. From day one, you’ll be part of an innovative team supporting your growth, building essential business skills, and gaining industry insights through shadowing and mentorship. This experience will prepare you for industry challenges and a successful career.

WHAT’S REQUIRED?

To join, you should be on track for at least a degree in systems engineering, electronic and communications engineering, computer science, software engineering, cryptography, maths, or physics. You should be a problem-solver with a curiosity for business challenges and a drive for innovation. Strong numerical and interpersonal skills, along with confidence to champion initiatives, are essential.

Please note: Applications are open only to penultimate-year students (those returning to their final year or on an integrated master’s after their placement). The programme starts on 7th July 2025.

REWARDS AND BENEFITS

The 2025 undergraduate salary will be £23,434, with additional benefits including holiday allowance, car purchase/lease schemes, pension, and retail discounts.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

We’re committed to a diverse, inclusive culture where everyone can bring their authentic self and reach their potential. We provide reasonable adjustments during recruitment. Learn more on our website.

ARRIVE AS YOU ARE. ACHIEVE THE EXCEPTIONAL.

You are responsible for your development. We support your journey toward a successful career. Apply early, as programmes may close at short notice.
