Governance Advisor
Location: Maidstone, Kent
Salary: £20.40 per hour DOE
Temporary contract until the end of November 2025
Join a forward-thinking local authority team providing expert advice and operational support on strategic information governance matters. Working closely with the designated Data Protection Officer (DPO) and Corporate Information Governance Adviser (CIGA), you’ll play a key role in ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and supporting the development of governance frameworks.
You’ll monitor and manage the DPO mailbox, triage queries, and escalate issues appropriately. Under the guidance of the CIGA, you’ll conduct initial reviews of Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), assess Screening Tools, and support services in preparing compliant documentation. You’ll also contribute to policy development, training delivery, and internal communications, including maintaining the Information Governance pages on KNet and supporting initiatives like Information Governance Week.
This role includes deputising for the CIGA at strategic meetings and contributing to innovative governance projects. You’ll be expected to continually develop your professional knowledge and share best practices across the team.
Candidate requirements:
* Level 5 Diploma (or equivalent) and/or advanced professional qualifications
* Experience in data protection compliance or advisory roles
* Strong communication skills and attention to detail
* Ability to manage sensitive information under pressure
* Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Power Platform
* Knowledge of current data protection legislation and governance procedures
* Willingness to complete or hold a GDPR Practitioner Certificate or equivalent apprenticeship
