Role Summary
As an Assistant Merchandiser, you will support the Merchandising team to ensure the right product is in the right place, at the right time. Your role involves analyzing data, managing stock levels, and optimizing product availability. You will work closely with Buying, Merchandising, and Retail teams to assist in forecasting, allocations, and trading decisions, ensuring a seamless customer experience. This role is ideal for someone with keen attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a passion for retail.
Role Responsibilities
* Input into the department strategy, producing historical analysis as required.
* Assist in creating forecasts and building range plans considering traded history and future events.
* Maintain line flows reflecting up-to-date forecasts, commitments, and contract reporting.
* Provide performance feedback to the Merchandiser and suggest actions like repeats, cancellations, and markdowns.
* Propose and cost markdowns and promotional activities.
* Oversee stock availability to meet launch dates and intake targets.
* Place orders with suppliers under the Merchandiser’s guidance and track stock progress.
* Update product systems with the latest information.
* Review stock performance across channels and recommend actions such as transfers or restrictions.
* Analyze category/season/product performance regularly and inform merchandising decisions.
* Participate in cross-functional activities like retail operations, Visual Merchandising, and Distribution Centres.
* Supervise, train, and develop Trainee Merchandisers where appropriate.
* Engage in personal development activities, including store and competitor visits.
* Deputise for the Merchandiser as needed.
* Contribute to the company’s sustainability strategy.
Skills and Experience
* Previous experience as an Allocator, Trainee Merchandiser, or Assistant Merchandiser.
* Strong numerical and analytical skills with Excel proficiency.
* Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
* Effective planning and organizational abilities.
* Retail experience is preferred, with knowledge of merchandising principles and systems.

* Tech-savvy with proficiency in Excel and product lifecycle management systems.
* Strong team player with cross-functional collaboration skills.
