We are thrilled to share an opening within our service delivery team to recruit for a Project Manager to provide a cost-effective maintenance solutions service to Southern Water's operational sites and to support the delivery of our core works. You will be responsible for the work life cycle; investigating cost effective options that meet operational needs, defining and communicating scope to contractors, managing the quality cost and timely delivery of solutions, and managing appropriate post-delivery close out.
Key duties will also involve in being in charge of the contract administration of multiple projects including cost and budget management, contract compliance, reporting, cost verification and H&S performance of Contractors.
Reporting to Senior Project Manager for Service Delivery contractor management, the team consist of six project managers within the operational service delivery planned maintenance project delivery team. The team deliver operational capital projects, with a value overall £50M across the team by turning key processes to deliver capital projects in accordance with time, cost and quality. An important role within Southern Water, you will be expected to use your previous skills and experience in financial and works management to ensure that projects and work programmes have robust cost control, to create a robust culture of strong governance and financial control.
Your key accountabilities will also include:
Undertaking all duties, responsibilities and exhibiting the highest regard to health, safety and the environment during project delivery

Managing and controlling contractor activities (H&S, scope of works, costs) through governance, including H&S audits, negotiating on scope and cost, and inspecting a selection of ongoing and completed jobs.

Maintenance of budget and cost information for a number of work streams using developed management information and reports - including forecasting final costs and budget vs. cost analysis

Finding innovative solutions to a variety of problems in order to balance the needs of Operations against cost restraints, ensuring essential work is undertaken and 'gold plating' is avoided.

Ensure that payment applications are assessed against agreed costs and works satisfactorily completed.

Visit selected site activities as required to undertake cost verification and relevant meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

Focusing on the achievement of targets, milestones, KPIs and supporting in Southern Water's SIM targets

Building strong and effective working relationships with operational site owners, contractors, other members of the team, other business contacts and key stakeholders

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong technical/ operational experience with sound knowledge of maintenance project delivery. Good understanding of regulatory and legislative background and a thorough knowledge of contract/ commercial condition will be essential in this highly pivotal role. You will be confident in delivering cost effective solutions that meet the needs of our Operations and Customers which requires a high degree of liaison between site owners / Customer and contractors and directly leading to delivery of stretching objectives. In this very autonomous role, with your engaging approach to networking, negotiating and influencing skills will lead you to secure high levels of service from contractors ensuring contractor awareness of service and H&S requirements are met in this highly varied role.
It will be essential for you to have Project Management experience within a utility environment with sound Water/ Wastewater operational knowledge. It will be ideal for you to have completed project related qualifications (APM/ Prince 2 and Health & Safety IOSH/ NEBOSH qualifications) or willing to complete if you are successful in securing this role.
