Mechanical Design Engineer
Salary: £40,000-£55,000
Location: Fully On-Site (Monday-Friday)

I'm representing a bespoke manufacturer of special purpose machinery, with a strong reputation in the paper, packaging, and laminating sectors. They design and build bespoke machinery and material-handling equipment, including roller-based systems, for customers across the industry. Due to continued growth, I am seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team.
Role Overview
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and modification of bespoke machinery, utilising SolidWorks to create innovative solutions that meet customer requirements. This role is hands-on and varied, involving both design work and on-site installation/commissioning of the machinery you develop.
Key Responsibilities
Produce high-quality 3D and 2D designs in SolidWorks.
Design and modify special purpose machinery, including material-handling equipment and roller systems.
Work with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical components to develop robust engineering solutions.
Adapt existing machinery to customer specifications or create new systems from concept to completion.
Participate in on-site installation and commissioning of machines (overnight stays required; hotel, travel, and allowances provided).
Collaborate closely with manufacturing, production, and project teams to ensure successful project delivery.
Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry and safety standards.
Skills & Experience Required
Proficient in SolidWorks.
Background in mechanical design, ideally within special purpose machinery or material-handling equipment.
Strong understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Experience designing machinery involving rollers, handling systems, or similar industrial equipment is advantageous.
Ability to take a project from concept through design, build, and installation.
Willingness to travel and stay overnight for installations and commissioning work.
Qualifications
HNC, HND, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Working Hours
Monday-Thursday: 8:00am-5:00pm
Friday: 8:00am-1:30pm
(Fully on-site role)
