Health & safety and event safety manager

Kenilworth
British Horse Society
Safety manager

Offer description

Health & Safety and Event Safety Manager (full-time, permanent)

Closing date: Thursday 4 June 2026

Salary: £38,000 per annum

We also offer 26 days’ annual leave (+ public holidays) on starting, matched pension contributions up to 5 percent, enhanced pay when taking leave as your family grows, income protection insurance, a health-cash plan and a wide range of wellbeing and mental health support services.

Location: This role is home-based with regular travel to events and locations across the UK. Our head office is near Stoneleigh, Warwickshire and there’ll be times you’ll need to travel to our office.

Hours: Our usual full-time hours are 35 a week — with an early finish on a Friday! We offer other flexible work options, such as compressed hours, which we’re happy to discuss.

What you’ll be doing:

* Working directly with staff, volunteers and event organisers to support the safe delivery of equestrian events and activities.
* Visiting events across the UK to provide practical, on-the-ground safety support and guidance.
* Delivering training and helping people apply H&S requirements in a practical and proportionate way.
* Reviewing event plans, risk assessments and serious incident arrangements.
* Investigating incidents, identifying trends and supporting continuous improvement.
* Building strong working relationships with volunteers, officials and stakeholders.

What you won’t be doing:

* Sitting behind a desk writing policies all day — this is a hands-on, field-based role.
* Working in isolation or taking a “clipboard policing” approach to H&S. Collaboration and practical support are key.
* Working in a purely office-based Monday–Friday role. Regular travel, event attendance and flexibility are an important part of the job.

This is a great role for you if:

* You enjoy being out at events and working directly with people in operational environments
* You have a strong understanding of equestrian activities and want to help make them safer and better organised
* You are confident communicating with volunteers, organisers and stakeholders, even in challenging situations
* You have practical H&S knowledge or qualifications, and enjoy applying safety principles in a real-world, proportionate way
* Prefer a practical, people-focused approach to H&S rather than purely desk-based compliance work

We’re excited that you’re thinking about applying to British Horse Society. To help you make the strongest impression, here are a few friendly tips:

* AI tools can be handy, but they don’t always hit the mark when it comes to the specific stuff we’re looking for
* We really want to hear your voice — your experiences, your skills and what makes you, well, you!
* If you lean too much on AI-generated content, your application might end up sounding a bit generic — and that could hurt your chances.

So, keep it real, keep it personal and show us what you’re all about.
