Degree Apprentice Civil Engineer – 2026 – UK wide

As a Degree Apprentice Civil Engineer within our Cementation operating unit, you’ll experience the full life cycle of piling and foundation projects through a rotational programme - from tendering to site delivery. You’ll develop your geotechnical and civil engineering skills with our nationwide piling and ground engineering teams.

What you'll do:
1. Develop knowledge and understanding of Geotechnical Design processes
2. Conduct engineering measurements, checks, inspections and tests to ensure quality compliance
3. Contribute to documenting plans, programmes, method statements and risk assessments
4. Use digital solutions to solve technical problems
5. Develop practical understanding of the importance of health and safety and the environmental requirements involved in civil engineering
6. Understand and apply industry specifications, codes, standards and guidance
7. Participate in site inductions, morning briefings & toolbox talks
8. Interpret and analyse information including analysis of data, producing models, calculations, reports and drawings
9. Identify and manage risk both in a project setting and during the design process
10. Contribute to sustainable engineering solutions
What you'll bring to the role:
11. 3 A-levels at Grade A - C, including Maths and a Physical Science, BTEC Extended National Diploma or equivalent level 3 qualification.
12. 5 GCSEs at Grades 4-9 including Maths, English and Science or their equivalent for us to successfully enrol you on the apprenticeship
13. You will need to be comfortable with Maths and Physics as engineering is built on these fundamental skills

16. Inquisitive and driven by a passion to grow and innovate
17. You must have lived in the UK in the last 3 years and have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for an apprenticeship. We are not able to proceed with applications that require visa sponsorship.
18. We are not able to proceed with applications from candidates that have already achieved a degree in a similar discipline.
19. This role requires visits to sites across the UK. As such, we would desire for the successful candidate to have a driving licence or work towards obtaining one within their first year of working with us
What qualification will you be studying towards?
Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering:
You will also work towards the Incorporated Civil Engineer (IEng MICE) professional qualification with the support of Skanska’s ICE accredited Training Agreement. You will gain varied experience as part of a structured rotational raining programme, throughout which you will be offered the support of experienced colleagues and mentors.

Where will you be working?
The first year of your apprenticeship will be a combination of working out of our Cementation Skanska office in Doncaster or Skanska UK head office in Leavesden, Watford, however, you will also be encouraged to visit other sites and projects during this time.
From year two, you will start completing rotations in different locations (site and office based across the UK).
Rotations
These will range in duration from 1 month up to 9 months and you will receive additional allowances, on top of your basic salary, to assist with the cost of staying away from home or relocating.
The rotational nature of this programme will give you exposure to an exciting portfolio of ground engineering projects across the UK building and civil engineering sectors as you experience all stages from work winning to site project delivery. This will make you a well-rounded engineer and help you in achieving your professional qualification.
