This post is for 23 hours and worked on shifts Monday to Sunday,

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Support Worker to join and complement our existing nursing team within Older People and Stroke services at IRH. Ward 3 is a 20 bedded unit, with a focus on orthopaedic rehabilitation and complex discharges. It is essential that post holder has excellent communication skills and is passionate in providing care for the older adult. Older People and Stroke Services can offer the successful candidate:
* The opportunity to work in a friendly, forward-thinking environment focused on serving the healthcare needs of older people
* Dedicated Clinical Educator to support practice development and education
Key responsibilities will include
* Assists with the nursing care of the patient under the supervision of a trained nurse. This will include all basic care including the reception, admission, transfer and discharge of the patient according to procedure.
* Ensure patients receive the care and assistance required/prescribed with fluid and nutritional intake.
* Observes and reports any change in the condition of the patient and communicates this verbally to the nurse in charge. Participates and assists in the updating and completion of accurate patient documentation as necessary
* Carries out and assists with minor investigatory procedures e.g.: Urinalysis, Faecal Occult Blood testing and Urine collections as required. Reports all findings to the trained nurse.
* Assists the patient unable to self-care with personal hygiene and dressing, adhering to all manual handling procedures and policies.
* Is responsible for the cleaning and tidying of clinical areas, equipment and storage cupboards, excluding cupboards for the storage of controlled drugs and medicines and reports any defects and areas of concern to the nurse in charge. Maintains stock of adequate supplies.
* Assists with the safe custody of patient’s personal belongings in accordance with organisational policy. To comply with all Health and Safety Legislation and policies with particular regard to COSHH, Fire, Infection Control and Manual Handling.
