The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. POSITION DUTIES

Employees in this classification will plan, organize, and direct a volunteer program at Eastern Correctional Institution and Eastern Correctional Institution-Annex. Program Duties Include: • Planning and directing volunteer programs • Develops plans for the effective operation of the volunteer program at a correctional institution. • Directs the activities of volunteers • Makes presentations to community groups to promote volunteer activities. • Coordinates the distribution of donated materials and supplies • Produces Institutional entries for volunteer programs • Manages and coordinates inmate organizations and programs to include special population events and fundraising • Coordinates the activities of various volunteer groups • Manages waiting lists for inmate volunteer programming •Completes other projects and assignments as directed by the Warden or Facility Administrator •Ensure compliance with all departmental policies, to include sexual harassment and its specific requirements for management’s prompt and effective attention, reporting and response to such complaints Administrative Duties Include: • Writes reports, correspondence, newsletters & other documents regarding volunteer programs • Prepares volunteers to work in the correctional setting, including but not limited to, requesting background checks, providing applications, interviewing perspective volunteers, and conducting volunteer orientation • Maintains records pertaining to volunteer programs and individual volunteers

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

Experience: Six years of experience involving planning, coordinating and evaluating volunteer activities in a state facility, institution or community-based program.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in social sciences, journalism, public relations or a related field and two years of experience involving planning, coordinating and evaluating volunteer activities in a state facility, institution or community-based program for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of graduate level education in social sciences, journalism, public relations or a related field from an accredited college or university at a rate of 30 credit hours for five years of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Two years of experience working with computer software; Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, access and publisher.
2. Two years of experience supervising programs involving large groups.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Employees in this classification will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.
