Consultant in Hepato‑Pancreatico‑Biliary (HPB) Surgery
Applications are invited for appointment of a substantive consultant in General Surgery (10 PAs) with a specialist interest in Hepato‑Pancreatico‑Biliary (HPB) surgery to join the existing team at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, Guildford. This is a new appointment that will strengthen the unit’s expertise and improve service capacity for the Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance.
Main duties of the job
The HPB team serves a 7‑unit catchment of ~2.4 million people and accepts referrals from other trusts, creating an effective catchment of 3 million. The postholder will contribute to the emergency general‑surgery on‑call rota and provide an on‑call service for specialist HPB surgery.

Person specification
Essential qualifications
* Full GMC registration
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for General Surgery (or relevant specialty) via CCT or Portfolio Pathway
* MBBS or equivalent
* Higher surgical qualification
* Provider status in ATLS/APLS/ALS or equivalent, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of interview date
Desirable qualifications
* Higher postgraduate research degree
* Educational Supervisor qualification
* Appraisal qualification
* Qualification in leadership and/or clinical management
* Teaching/Education Qualification
Essential experience
* Suitable training and exposure to advanced HPB cancer surgery and benign upper GI surgery
* Significant experience in a dedicated high‑volume HPB unit
* Significant evidence of experience in clinical leadership
* Experience of advanced laparoscopy
Desirable experience
* Experience of minimal access HPB surgery
* Fellowship‑level clinical HPB experience
Essential skills
* Trained in radical HPB resectional surgery and in relevant aspects of HPB cancer
* Advanced laparoscopic surgery skills
Desirable skills
* Advanced endoscopic skills
