Job Description

The Planning Insight Business Partner will work as part of a new team within the Strategic Planning department. The team will use data and evidence to provide meaningful insight that supports decision‑making at all levels of the University.

The role holder will work closely with Faculties, Institutes and Departments throughout the University and across the Strategic Planning Department to interpret internal and external data to drive improvements and identify best practice. Appointments are normally made within 4‑8 weeks of the closing date.


Key Responsibilities

* Embed a culture across the university using data insights to drive continual improvement in student experience.
* Build a better understanding and effective use of data across the University, improving the ability to deal with future challenges and evolving needs.
* Use a wide range of data sources to ensure that the University’s course offering is attractive to potential students and competitive within the market.
* Take responsibility for business partnering with one or more faculties or institutes.
* Undertake meaningful analysis, interpretation and insight using internal and external data.
* Develop deep knowledge of multiple academic subject areas to underpin relevant, timely insights.
* Work with departments and faculties to embed data use into operational and strategic decision‑making.
* Collaborate with Business Partners from other professional services across the University to support change and achieve objectives.
* Develop a strong understanding of external data sources to support horizon scanning for future opportunities and challenges.
* Create reports and visualisations that provide insight and monitor progress towards strategic goals.
* Use performance indicator metrics to work with colleagues on improvement projects affecting all levels of the student experience.
* Ensure subject course portfolios respond to market demands, are attractive and competitive.
* Develop initiatives to take advantage of new opportunities.
* Represent the Planning department at meetings and events, informing and participating in discussions, ensuring follow‑up actions and keeping colleagues updated.
* Comply with Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR requirements.

* Undertake other duties as assigned by the line manager, commensurate with the role's grade.
* Engage in university‑level projects and initiatives as directed.
* Demonstrate flexibility supporting colleagues during periods of high demand, including attendance at key university events such as open days and graduation ceremonies.

Essential Qualifications

* Degree level in an analytical subject.
* Experience interpreting data to provide meaningful insight accessible to non‑data specialists.
* Experience producing visualisations and dashboards to support data insight.
* Experience promoting data insights to inform continuous improvement processes.
* Proven ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
* Knowledge of handling data sensitively in accordance with GDPR and related regulations.
* Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge applied to data analysis.
* Ability to work accurately under pressure and manage a varied workload.
* Ability to compose concise, fit‑for‑purpose analysis and reports.
* Excellent communicator, orally and in writing.
* Awareness of the bilingual nature of the University and support for working bilingually.


Desirable

* Further degree or specific qualification in Mathematics, Statistics or Data Science.
* Experience using data to refine and develop course portfolios.
* Oral and written Welsh Level B2.
