Overview

We are looking for a Charity Shop Manager who is passionate, driven and retail minded to join our team. Our Charity Shop, based in Lechlade, requires someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment whilst bringing warmth, resilience and positivity to the role. This is a hands-on job that needs strong time management, emotional intelligence and the ability to lead by example.

Our charity shop raises funds that supports the services our charity provides in the local community. The Charity Shop Manager should have excellent communication skills and a high level of customer service to ensure our customers and volunteers feel valued and want to keep coming back.

This is a varied and exciting role. The Charity Shop Manager is instrumental in making the shop a success, acting as a face of the organisation whilst also raising public awareness of the charities campaigns and fundraising events.

The Charity Shop Manager will be responsible for the day to day running of the shop, supported and encouraged to develop the role by the General Manager and the Board of Trustees.

Responsibilities

Effectively and efficiently manage the running of the Charity Shop and its volunteers with the aim of achieving maximum sales and minimising costs with profits growing year on year

Responsible for actively recruiting the necessary number of volunteers required to cover the shop opening hours. Deliver an induction programme and necessary training for all volunteers, providing supervision and support to ensure they are able, confident and proficient to perform their role to the best of their ability. Organise a rota to ensure the shop runs to its maximum potential with shop floor and store room tasks allocated

Ensure maximum stock availability at all times through effective control of donated goods, generating, sourcing and collecting where necessary high-quality stock. Managing and monitoring stock flow through the shop, including disposal of unwanted goods. Effectively manage and display stock to maximise footfall and sales, both in the windows and the interior of the shop. Ensuring all stock is sorted, priced cleaned or steamed before going onto the shop floor. Identify opportunities to maximise the potential of different product categories and utilise these to increase the income, including implementing promotions in the shop when necessary

Responsible for the security of the shop's premises, takings and stock held, complying with any banking procedures. Undertake daily till reconciliation, reports and banking, ensuring all relevant documentation is processed and all discrepancies investigated and documented. Ensure compliance with Trading Standards and Health and Safety Legislation providing a safe and secure working environment for staff, volunteers and customers. Achieve and maintain a high standard of housekeeping, organisation and cleanliness in all areas of the shop for staff, customers and volunteers

Ensure a high level of customer service is delivered and maintained at all times

Manage the Gift Aid process and procedures, actively promoting Gift Aid through volunteers and donors. Complete all necessary Gift Aid reporting in accordance with HMRC requirements

Maintain the upkeep of the storage facility used for the organisation, including disposal of unwanted goods

Ensure all policies and procedures, relevant documentation and administration tasks are adhered to and reviewed in the required time frame

Regularly liaise and communicate with the General Manager to ensure clear, consistent and smooth organisation and delivery of the Charity Shop. Highlight notifiable events, and report on engagement, volunteers, customers, promotional ideas, sales and stock levels to the Board of Trustees, via the General Manager, or another nominated individual

Chair and prepare the agenda, and any other relevant papers, for the Annual Shop Volunteer's Meeting, with the General Manager

Attend the Charity's AGM to deliver a prepared report on behalf of the Charity Shop

Attend all training courses and meetings as directed by the Board of Trustees or General Manager, relaying relevant information to all volunteers

Represent the Charity as an active, community organisation, ensuring actions and decisions reinforce the Charities core purpose. Ensure the charity shop is highly promoted and circulated regularly and widely, on social media. Support and promote the Charity's fundraisers and initiatives as directed by the Board of Trustees or General Manager to volunteers and shop customers

Liaise with relevant local or national organisations to aspire to and share best practice

Undertake any other appropriate and reasonable task within the scope of the job as directed by the Board of Trustees via the General Manager or another nominated individual

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £21,706.00 per year

Expected hours: 33 per week
