Environmental Protection Team Leader

Pay: £47 per hour LTD (Inc Holiday) | £36.70 per hour PAYE
Service Care Solutions are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a respected local authority for an experienced Environmental Protection Team Leader to join their Regulatory Services team on a temporary basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Environmental Health professional to take on a leadership role, managing a team and delivering high-quality environmental protection services that safeguard public health.
The Role As Team Leader, you will support the Environmental Protection Manager in the operational delivery and strategic development of the service. You will lead on complex regulatory matters, supervise a team of officers, and ensure enforcement activity is carried out in line with legislation and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the Environmental Protection Team, including Environmental Health Officers and support staff
Oversee enforcement activity across environmental protection disciplines (e.g. noise, air quality, contaminated land)
Provide expert technical advice and guidance to colleagues, stakeholders, and partner agencies
Undertake complex investigations, inspections, and interventions, including high-profile cases
Support service development, including policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives
Monitor team performance, deliver training, and manage staff development and wellbeing
Prepare reports, respond to complaints/FOIs, and present evidence in court where required
Work collaboratively across departments and with external partners
Essential Requirements
Degree (BSc/MSc) in Environmental Health or equivalent
Registered with EHRB/CIEH
Significant experience in Environmental Protection and enforcement, including prosecutions
Strong leadership or team management experience
Excellent communication, analytical, and report-writing skills
Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes
Desirable
Chartered membership of CIEH
Supervisory or management qualification
Specialist qualifications in areas such as air quality, noise, or contaminated land
Additional Information
Flexibility required – some out-of-hours and unsocial hours work may be necessary
